The article indicates BIM as a creative process involving a generation and use of data about the structure. The interoperability of BIM platforms allows all stakeholders for getting involved in the investment with an easy access to information and digital data at the same time. BIM as an innovative technologymay be used in road construction, not only in improving the organization of construction works, but also in the design offices when project documentation is created, as well as in improving of the operation phase management. The results of a survey among contractors regarding the current state and visions for the BIM use were presented.
