The paper is focused on an innovativemethod designed to improve safety at intersections with complex geometry. The method consists in applying the SPIK-er system, which is to be installed as an integrated element ofmultiphase traffic lights. The system displays two types of horizontal traffic signs. The first of them indicates the shape and direction of lanes at the green light, the second perpendicular bars at the red light. The intention of the SPIK-er systemconsists in providing support formotorists in poor or lack of visibility of the traditional horizontal marking painted on the road surface.
