To a considerable degree building industry is responsible for consumption of natural resources and energy and the emission of harmful gases into the atmosphere. In addition, this sector generates large amounts of solidwaste, both at the stage of erecting building objects, as well as during their demolition. Since many years EU has launched initiatives aimed at direct reduction of the negative impact of the production process of construction materials and erecting and exploitation of building objects on the environment. In the article there were characterized the most important European legal acts allowing the realization of strategy of sustainable building. There were discussed issues of recycling logistics and disposal of waste materials from building. There was carried out the analysis of generated construction and demolition wastes in the EU countries and the degree of their development, together with the identification of obstacles of the efficient recycling process.
