The laboratory methods used to test concrete in structures subjected to high temperature are discussed. Attention is drawn to the limitations of the standard method for determining the compressive strength of concrete on core samples, applied to concrete after fire. The methods to determine the extent of concrete damage in the element are presented: the compressive strength test on subsequent layers of the core, the FBTest, the dynamic elastic modulus test, and the air permeability index test. The methods to estimate the fire temperature distribution in the examined element, using the relationship between the high temperature and the physico-chemical phenomena occurring in concrete, are also discussed.
