The paper presents the topic of building acoustics, in terms of protection against traffic noise in the design of residential buildings. The impact of traffic noise levels around a building on the sound insulation requirements of external walls is discussed. The relationships between the acoustical properties of solid and glazed parts are described, as well as the related consequences for the selection of windows and air-inlets.
