The assessment of buildings steels properties is often carried out basing on indirect testing. They are the alternative or the complementary of destructive tests (strength, impact and weldability tests), which are severely limited or even impossible to execute due to insufficient quantity of specimens. The article presents the possibilities of evaluating the properties of structural steels based on the non-destructive tests: Brinell hardness measurements; microstructural analysis and chemical composition evaluation.

Keywords: constructional steels; Brinell hardness; microstructure; chemical composition.
