Structural analysis of some double-layer steel barrel vaults

The article presents the results of a static analysis of selected double-layer steel barrel vaults. Braced barrel vaults are architectonic structures formed on the basis of triangles or rectangles, presenting great stiffness while keeping the structure very light. Such spatial structures, due to their small mass must be carefully analysed, not only with respect to statistics, but also subject to modal analysis. Numerical analysis presenting the influence of shaping the space grid structures geometry on the bars stresses and the economics of individual solutions. Three space grid variants with the same geometry structures were compared. They differ only in the nodes work way – in the first variant rigid joints were used, in the second – flexible joints. In the third variant, the geometry of the space truss criss-cross has been changed to illustrate the influence of the bar placement in the truss on the distribution of internal forces and stresses.
