Short polymer fibers as micro-reinforcement of cement composites

Contrary to generally accepted solutions, where polymer fibers are used in the amounts below 0.1 vol. %, in the presented article the results of research on cement composites modified with polymer fibers in 1.vol.% were showed. As microreinforcement of cement composites, two types of polypropylene fibers differing in cross-section and polyamide fibers with length of 12 mm were applied. The research results expanded by the physical and mechanical characterization of cement composites with the addition of steel fibers in the same volume share. It was indicated that in whole research period, polymer fibers improved the flexural toughness of cement matrix, and obtained values of destruction energy of composite were at least several times higher than corresponding values obtained for pure mortar.
