The speed of vehicles is one of the basic parameters of the road and street network functionality and traffic quality assessment. Such an assessment is based on the use of information about instantaneous speed which is to reflect the influence of basic characteristics of road’s cross-section and surroundings, such as: width of the lane or type and shoulder width. On the other hand road curvature which is an essential factor for evaluation of rural roads is being omitted. The article presents selected results of spot and sectional speed measurements conducted on rural sections of voivodeship roads located in the Podlasie voivodship. For the instantaneous velocity measurements an automatic operating inmicrowave bands RTMS Autoscope recorder was used and for the measurement of the sectional speed a set of two cameras registering and reading number plates were applied. Keywords: spot speed; sectional speed; regional roads.
