In the composite floors, made of hollow core elements with structural topping, interface reinforcement is not applied. In these structures preparation of the top surface of precast element has a significant impact on longitudinal shear strength. In the standards there is no consensus about the assumptions for parameters related to composite action calculations. Own experimental studies for determination of adhesion factor c and friction coefficient μ for prestressed hollow core elements commonly used in Poland are presented in the paper. Conducted tests showed that the process of longitudinal machine grooving the upper surface prefab slabs used during manufacturing, due to the relatively low profile of grooves, allows only for the classification of the contact surface, according to EC2, as a "smooth". Adoption of better parameters for longitudinal shear strength calculations should always be preceded by an analysis of surface roughness for a given type of item.
